1. Pick the Right Room
Pick a room in your home where you feel good. That means that the room that makes you feel good, is a peaceful place where people don’t go around you much. When picking a room, pay attention to lighting. For example, a room that has a lot of natural light will improve your mood instantly. That means that you will want a room that faces the sun in the time of the day when you plan to meditate. If you like doing in the dark however, make sure you have curtains or blinds in the room you want to mediate in, although not a lot of people like to meditate in the dark. Or even better, you can pick a room that looks at the sunset – a beautiful way to start your meditation. If you don’t have a room that fits this description, you can always use your garden if you want to and it feels right.
2. Create a Clean Space
When speaking of distractions, crowded places are one, especially when you are trying to relax. Make sure your room doesn’t have a lot of things.
That means you shouldn’t use your office as a meditation room. There’s just too much going on at the table, files, and the stress thoughts, job, deadlines, bills. Empty the room you want to meditate in, it should just have a few objects. Basic elements like a small table, a yoga mat, a carpet and a meditation pillow.
3. Bring in elements of Nature
Nature is organically relaxing and healing, so it makes sense to put in some natural elements in the room you want to relax in and meditate. Actually, most believe that you need to connect your mind and body to nature. Although it would be ideal to meditate outside in a peaceful ambiance, it is not always possible if you live in a city.
Think about a touch of nature when making a meditation space. The room will be filled with harmony and balance. You can choose any natural element you like. A plant, flowers, sand and shells, even a small fountain. The sound of the water will do wonders for you.
4. Meditation Music
Although not a necessary element, music can be very relaxing for many. This is especially useful for those who live in a city, where car sounds constantly penetrate the walls. Meditative music, although quiet in the background, can help you relax.
5. Aroma Therapy
Another element you should consider is scent, or aroma therapy. Using different smelling oils from plants like lavender can calm the soul, body and mind. Scented candles and sticks can also do wonders for your meditation.
